Morning weigh-in: 160.8 lbs (starting weight: 166.4 lbs)
OK. I have to admit I'm surprised by that. It's all still potentially water loss, and yes, 166.4lbs was my weight in the evening (when I'm heavier, I guess everyone is) whereas this was in the morning...but still. It's getting to actual serious amounts.
I was also very pleased to get some feedback on my diet from Gary himself. Among his words of wisdom:
"The reason you're not hungry is because you're burning your own fat for fuel, which is a good thing. Missing the carbs is not surprising. You have to think of it as any addiction. It takes a few weeks before you get over the initial cravings."
This does seem to fit with what I'm going through, provided it passes in a week or two...

Hi Sophie:
ReplyDeleteI don't have Volek's book Art & Science of Low-Carb on me at the moment, but I believe the says somewhere in there that really only the first 2-4 pounds are water loss, and the rest is real fat, iirc. (I'm sure someone who has it to hand can either confirm or correct me on this today! :) )
If it wasn't real fat loss, you would be hungry. But since you haven't been hungry, your body has obviously been utilizing your own fat stores. So I'm betting you're looking at a nice amount of real fat loss in just 9 days. :)
Congrats to you! Clearly you're succeeding. Please note that as you come near your cycle, many women will retain a little water due to hormones - sometimes as much as 2 lbs. Don't let that freak you out if it happens.
After about 3 months of steady low-carb living you will notice that your cycle will improve - PMS will diminish or vanish, you'll stop retaining water, or retain far less, headaches will resolve - you'll be pleasantly surprised!
Keep up the good work! The progress is real! :)
Best wishes to you.
I am on day 16 and I have lost 7 lbs. I also had a lot of cravings and was missing the carbs but all of a sudden over the last two days things have drastically improved in that department! I am also seeing big improvements in my asthma in such a short time.
